Win a Copy of Passionate Readers in Honor of My Birthday

Thank you so much to all who entered, through a random number generator the winner was selected and notified yesterday!

I woke up a year older this morning.  Amazing how that happens just like that.  Like a year is no big deal.  Like a year passing is just something to get used to.

In all honesty, it hasn’t hit me yet.  38.  What an age.  I remember my mother being 38 and thinking how young she still was yet knowing that being in your 30’s somehow meant you were very much an adult.  I feel very much like an adult at times, other times not so much.

Every year, I write a letter to myself to be delivered on my birthday through FutureMe, it never ceases to amaze me what I was thinking at the time I wrote the letter.  The questions I have for myself.  Last year’s letter asked me how Passionate Readers turned out, whether it was useful, whether people found inspiration within its pages.  I think it has been, I am not sure, it is hard to judge one’s own work.  And yet, it is being read and shared, and I am just a little bit amazed.

So in honor of my birthday and in honor of my student’s who have had the most significant impact on me as a teacher, I am giving away a copy of Passionate Readers today.  The giveaway will end at midnight tonight.  All you have to do is leave a comment and I will select a winner randomly.  Bonus; if you have read the book and leave a review, I will enter you into the drawing twice as a thank you and then you can give a copy of the book away.

I am not sure what this upcoming year will hold.  More travels for sure, more laughs I hope, more time becoming better, becoming more than what I was.  But I do know that I am planning on making this year count.  The quiet moments and the loud.  On growing deliberately.  On slowing down deliberately.  On being grateful.  So thank you for the love and support you have given me this past year.  Thank you for being on this journey with me.

If you like what you read here, consider reading my newest book, Passionate Readers – The Art of Reaching and Engaging Every Child, out August 2017.  This book focuses on the five keys we can implement into any reading community to strengthen student reading experiences, even within the 45 minute English block.  If you are looking for solutions and ideas for how to re-engage all of your students consider reading my very first book  Passionate Learners – How to Engage and Empower Your Students.      Also, if you are wondering where I will be in the coming year or would like to have me speak, please see this page.

  1. Happy Birthday! I have so enjoyed your blog and posts. I discovered it this summer when I took on a new school and grade after 16 plus years of teaching. Your words have inspired and your ideas are authentic and helpful; especially to a language arts teacher. Thank you!

  2. Happy 38th Birthday! You are such an inspiration and a teacher who actually gets that teachers should teach students, not just content 🎂😀

  3. Happy birthday! I met you at NCTIES a few years ago, and you’ve been a significant influence on my teaching ever since. I hope this next year is a wonderful one.

  4. Pernille, what a great idea for a birthday give away. I have not read your book yet, but have been wanting to. I’ve convinced the 5th grade teachers at my school to do global read aloud this year and can’t wait!

  5. Happy Birthday! Just this weekend my sister and I were talking about now being the age others in our family used to be. When did we get so grown up? I hope you had a great day!

  6. I always enjoy seeing what you are reading. You have great suggestions. I’m trying to awaken reading passion in my students. Your book would really help.

  7. This book has stopped me in my teaching tracks. I cannot stop reading this and really reflecting on my practice. Thank you for your words, wisdom, and love of books. You have changed my students’ lives because you have changed mine. Happy Birthday!

  8. Happy Birthday, Pernille. I love what you write and love to hear your wise words as often as possible.

  9. Happy but rthday. I enjoy reading your thoughts on encouraging kids to read and not just for a test. But thanks to your thoughts, come of my coworkers tell me I “hate ar” now. Not completely true but there are worse things to be described as. 🙂

  10. Happy birthday Pernille. I don’t expect to win as I’m a school librarian in New Zealand and it’s a bit too expensive to ship books here but I get such a lot of help from your blog in selecting books for our library. I particularly take note of the YA fiction and have bought many books as a result of your lists from your students’ choices. Many thanks for your help and great book lists.

  11. I missed the give away, but happy belated birthday!! I feel like we are friends since I heard you speak at WSRA a couple of years ago and I’ve been reading your blog ever since. I can’t wait to get your book and read it this summer! May this new year of life bring you good health, much happiness, and exciting new adventures.

  12. Happy happy birthday!
